leap into Lahore.

The Walled City of Lahore, usually referred to as the Old City, serves as the city's historic center. The western region of the Walled City, having been guarded with a mud wall throughout the Middle Ages, was where the city was founded approximately 1000 CE. The Walled City gained popularity once it was acknowledged as the Mughal capital, which prompted the building of the Lahore Fort, which is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as the construction of the city's new, stronger walls. The Walled City gained various monuments during the Mughal Empire. There are some of Lahore's most recognizable structures, such as the enormous Badshahi Mosque, the lavishly decorated Wazir Khan Mosque, and the Shahi Hammam. Under the Sikh rule, the Walled City once more rose to prominence because of a few religious constructions made there, most notably the Gurdwara Janam Asthan Guru Ram Das and the Samadhi of Ranjit Singh. The Walled City, where many of Lahore's tourist attractions are located, continues to be the city's cultural center today. To repair a stretch of Shahi Guzargah ("Royal Passage") under the control of the Walled City of Lahore Authority between the Wazir Khan Mosque and Delhi Gate, the Pilot Urban Conservation, and Infrastructure Improvement Project—the Shahi Guzargah Project was begun in 2012.
